Many photographers like to shoot at low sensitivity to minimize noise as much as possible. In astrophotography, bright wide-angle lenses are often chosen because they allow work in low light. The 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN | Art has been developed as the ultimate wide-angle, large-diameter zoom lens, optimizing its features for shooting starry skies with full-frame hybrid cameras. Uniform rendering and excellent peripheral resolution make it the "ultimate lens for astrophotography". By taking advantage of the low back focal length characteristics of hybrid bodies, this new-generation luminous zoom combines compact construction with unprecedented high-resolution image quality.
The product name includes "DG" when the lens is designed for optimum performance on cameras with full-frame sensors, and "DN" when the lens design is optimized for hybrid cameras with low back focal lengths.

One FLD and five SLD glass elements are integrated to suppress chromatic aberrations right to the edge of the image. Three aspherical lenses, including a large-diameter aspherical lens placed at the front of the lens, are used to effectively minimize flare, coma, etc., thus achieving breathtaking resolution. The "super multi layer" coating is combined with a new NPC (Nano Porous Coating)*. The lens has been designed to be as insensitive as possible to strong incident light such as backlighting.
* SIGMA's unique new "NPC (Nano Porous Coating)" coating technology incorporates porous silica as the coating material. The porous silica layer features nano-sized holes with air inside. The presence of holes of this size considerably reduces the refractive index, thereby lowering reflectance to a greater extent than conventional anti-reflective coatings. As a result, reflected light causing flare and ghosting is greatly reduced, resulting in optimum image quality.

The use of a stepper motor ensures silent, extremely fast autofocusing. Shooting is comfortable even in autofocus subject detection modes, such as face and eye AF, and in video shooting. The AFL button, which can be assigned to different functions, enhances the lens' functionality. The lens also features a dust- and splash-proof construction, and the front lens has a water-repellent coating, making it easier to shoot in difficult conditions.
