For the best balance in a lens designed for everyday use
Easy to use
The product name includes "DG" when the lens is designed for optimum performance on cameras with full-frame sensors, and "DN" when the lens design is optimized for hybrid cameras with low optical back focal lengths.
Superb bokeh and rendering for all situations
With the SIGMA 45mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary, the emphasis is on rich bokeh expression.
Spherical aberration has been controlled to ensure not only strong bokeh to the front and rear of the subject, but also a gentle progression of rear bokeh close to the focus zone to achieve a velvety blur. This lens softens the periphery of blurred areas by suppressing double-line bokeh, and enhances the subject's three-dimensional effect with soft foregrounds and backgrounds. The minimum focusing distance of 24 cm lets you take full advantage of the possibilities offered by this focal length. The design corrects vignetting to achieve beautiful round bokeh and swirling bokeh effects, among many other effects.
While this lens produces smooth bokeh effects at wide apertures that could be described as classic, it also generates a modern, crisp rendering at low apertures. It's reassuring to have such a classic lens for everyday use.
High-speed, high-precision AF focusing thanks to stepper motor
The lens is capable of smooth, silent and very fast AF focusing thanks to its stepper motor, and provides AF focusing with face and eye detection and AF focusing in video mode. The design takes MF use into account, with a ring with appropriate friction to ensure proper operation.
High-quality workmanship and outstanding ergonomics
Because this lens is intended for everyday use, particular attention has been paid to build quality and ergonomics. The sunshield bayonet is designed for easy removal and attachment, and the lens body incorporates a metallic material in the main part, for enhanced durability. What's more, thanks to the detachable aperture ring, comfort of use is assured when shooting in different styles.
