Advanced XDCAM shoulder camera featuring three 2/3″ Exmor® CMOS sensors, optimal balance, enhanced network connectivity, low power consumption and a 20X manual focus lens kit.
The PMW-X400KC camera is supplied with a 20x manual focus zoom lens kit, which includes a 3.5" LCD viewfinder and a short-barrel stereo microphone.
* The autofocus function will be available in June 2016.
High-quality recordings with XAVC Long-GOP at 50p or 59.94p
The PXW-X400 supports a wide variety of codecs from SD to HD, including MPEG HD 422 50 Mbit/s recordings in MXF (Material eXchange Format), widely accepted by major broadcasters worldwide, as well as XAVC Intra frame and XAVC Long GOP codecs. XAVC technology is based on the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format, which provides a compression technique with exceptional performance. XAVC technology delivers superior image quality and bit depth, offering greater calibration possibilities.
High-sensitivity images
Thanks to its three 2/3″ Exmor® CMOS sensors, the camera offers superb image quality with F12/F13 sensitivity and a signal-to-noise ratio of 62 dB. Its digital focal length multiplier operates in x2, x3 or x4.
Improved ergonomics for best-in-class balance
The camera has been redesigned to improve handling and weight distribution compared with previous models. The lighter lens mount solves the problem of front weight and considerably reduces the load on the operator's right arm. This balance makes it easier to shoot for hours on end, and offers greater image stability.
Support for OLED Full HD* viewfinders
The camera supports Sony viewfinders, including the OLED Full HD models HDVF-EL30 and HDVF-EL20, as well as the QHD LCD CBK-VF02.
* HDVF-EL30 and HDVF-EL20 models will be available as options from December 2015.
Integrated RJ-45 connector
A built-in RJ-45 (100BASE-T) Ethernet connector on the right-hand side of the camera provides a fast, reliable network connection that can be used for file transfer, live streaming or even controlling the camera from a web browser.
Near Field Communication* (NFC) function
The Near Field Communication (NFC) function enables a simple touch to connect in wireless LAN mode to a smartphone or tablet, without manual adjustment of network parameters.
* NFC technology enables wireless near-field communication between the PXW-X400 and an NFC-enabled smartphone or tablet. This function will be available in June 2016.
Integrated wireless module with Content Browser Mobile™
The integrated wireless module gives you greater mobility, as no cables are required, enabling proxy recording and file transfer or live streaming. In file transfer mode, high-resolution files and XAVC proxy files can be sent to the cloud or an FTP server via a wireless connection, thanks to the Content Browser Mobile* (CBM) application. In "Push" mode, the CBM application allows users to follow footage as it is being shot, and to remotely adjust certain camera parameters such as focus, zoom, iris, white balance, recording on/off and much more. Thanks to the Content Browser Mobile V2.0 application, proxy trimming, partial loading of proxy clips and marker setting are available. In "live broadcast" mode, high-quality live streaming is provided by Sony's advanced QoS technology built into the camera and via the PWS-100RX1 RX network station. Live streaming without QoS is also possible with a third-party receiver or VLC player.
*The CBM application is available for download from the Google Play Store or App Store.
ONLINE" button for easy network connection
A dedicated button makes it easy to activate or deactivate Client Network mode, automatic loading (proxy) and live broadcasting.
"Pool-feed (SDI input)
An SD or HD-SDI signal (up to 1.5 G) can be recorded by the camera, a useful function for recording an external stream from another device.
Lower power consumption
By optimizing the system design, the lightweight PXW-X400 camera records at a low power consumption of 22 W (when the wireless function is deactivated, without lens or viewfinder). This allows continuous recording for up to 240 minutes with Sony's optional BP-GL95A standard batteries.
Simultaneous recording on two SxS cards
The PXW-X400 features a simultaneous recording function for complete peace of mind during your productions. Recording can be carried out simultaneously on two SxS cards for backup purposes, using the same codec and settings* if you use the following recording formats: XAVC Intra, XAVC-Long, MPEG HD422 or MPEG HD420.
* Simultaneous recording with proxy file is supported by all combinations with the above formats on an SD card.
Flexible use
A CA-FB70 fiber-optic adapter or a Triax CA-TX70 digital camera adapter can be installed on the PXW-X400 for live camera operation. The CA-FB70 adapter enables the PXW-X400 to transmit signals via a fiber-optic cable offering a distance of up to 250 meters between the CA-FB70 adapter and the HXCU-FB70 fiber-optic camera control unit (CCU); this cable is also used for power supply. The CA-TX70 transmits signals via a triax cable offering a distance of up to 600 meters* between the CA-TX70 and the HXCU-TX70 digital triax camera control unit.
* With 8.5 mm diameter cable.
