20.3 MP Live MOS sensor and Venus processor
Optimized for high-resolution, high-speed images, the Lumix DC-G9 integrates both a 20.3 MP Micro 4/3 sensor and an enhanced Venus Engine processor to create detailed still images and 4K UHD videos. This configuration maximizes resolution while minimizing noise, enabling sensitivities up to ISO 25600. This combination is also extremely fast. For example, the G9 offers burst speeds of up to 60 fps in AF-S and 20 fps in AF-C when using the electronic shutter, or 12 fps in AF-S and 9 fps in AF-C when using the mechanical shutter.
4K UHD video recording
The G9 offers internal recording with 8-bit color depth and 4:2:0 sampling using Long GOP compression to keep file sizes manageable. Users also have access to different frame rates, including 60p, 30p and 24p in 4K UHD, as well as 60p and 24p in Full HD. Slow-motion video is available in creative video mode, with support for resolutions of 60 and 48 fps in 4K UHD format, and up to 180 fps in Full HD.
To optimize image quality, the Lumix DC-G9 also features a standard-size HDMI output enabling an optional external recorder to receive 4:2:2 8-bit footage at all resolutions up to 4K30p. In addition, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a 3.5mm microphone input are available for enhanced audio capture.
Dual I.S. 2 image stabilization
The G9 incorporates Dual I.S. 2 stabilization, which combines the G9's sensor-shift image stabilization with lens image stabilization to compensate for a wider range of motion types for sharper, clearer images. Dual I.S. 2 requires the use of compatible Lumix lenses with O.I.S. technology. This stabilization system is capable of compensating for around six stops.
Advanced AF system with 225 zone defocusing depths
the G9 boasts Advanced DFD (Depth-From-Defocus) technology, which quickly calculates the distance to subjects and adjusts the focus position in just 0.04 seconds. This means you can shoot continuously at up to 20 fps in continuous AF mode. This contrast-detection-type focusing method is ideal for still and video photography, as well as for subject tracking, in which the subject's color, size and motion vectors are used to intelligently lock onto moving subjects and ensure precise focus. Sensitivity and speed can be adjusted to further enhance performance with certain subjects. It also features 225 AF zones, offering excellent control over the camera's focus areas. What's more, thanks to the Starlight AF feature, autofocus with precise brightness allows you to work with a focus accuracy of less than -4 EV.
