4-speed image stabilizer
The new EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens is the world's very first 4-speed image stabilizer (IS). Ideal for hand-held shooting, the incredibly precise and sensitive IS replaces the need for a tripod on many occasions. Shutter speeds 4 stops slower than those required with a conventional lens (e.g. 1/8 sec instead of 1/125) can be used without any perceptible blurring.
For stabilized panoramic shooting, 2 IS mode only compensates for unwanted vertical vibrations.
L series quality
This lens meets the highest standards of quality, reliability and functionality for L-series optics. Sharpness and image quality are guaranteed throughout the entire focal length range. Its characteristics make it the ideal partner even in difficult conditions, with its polycarbonate and metal structure providing a watertight seal, perfect for repelling dust and combating humidity.
Lightweight
172 mm for just 760 g: the ideal dimensions of the EF 70-200 mm f/4L IS USM allow photographers to take it anywhere, on any occasion. Thanks to its light weight, the EF 70-200 mm f/4L IS USM puts an end to compromises and prioritizes performance, functionality and rendering quality.
Constant opening
With a constant aperture across the entire focal length range, photographers can select the full aperture and take a series of shots at different focal lengths without significant variation in shutter speed. Lens length remains constant during focusing and zooming.
Fluorite and ultra-low dispersion lenses
The lens is made up of one fluorite and two ultra-low dispersion (UD) glass lenses to eliminate secondary chromatic aberrations, resulting in razor-sharp, high-contrast images free from glare across the entire focal length range and any color dispersion effects.
Autofocus
Thanks to the ring-shaped Ultrasonic Motor (USM), autofocusing is fast and almost silent. The motor's high torque ensures precise focusing stops, without error or hesitation. Manual focusing or autofocus retouching can be performed without having to switch to manual mode first. The minimum focusing distance is 1.2m for the entire focal length range.
Super Spectra treatment
This coating and the optimized shape of the lenses eliminate the risk of intra-lens internal reflections and ghosting. The coating also delivers natural color balance and enhanced contrast.
Aesthetic background blur
The Electromagnetic Diaphragm (EMD) provides an almost circular aperture, giving a homogeneous, artistic background blur.
