The U87 is probably the best-known and most widely used Neumann studio microphone in the world. It features a large-diameter, dual-diaphragm capsule with three polar patterns: omnidirectional, cardioid and bidirectional (figure of 8), switchable via a selector switch under the grille. A 10 dB attenuation switch on the rear of the microphone enables it to handle sound pressure levels of up to 127 dB SPL without distortion. You can also attenuate the bass response to compensate for the proximity effect. The U 87 Ai condenser microphone is a large-diaphragm model with three different polar patterns and unique frequency response and transient characteristics. Users immediately recognize this microphone by its distinctive look. It's a good choice for most common studio, broadcast, film and TV applications...
