The ultimate 4K toolbox
The FS4 is a 4-channel 2K/HD/SD or 1-channel 4K/UltraHD image synchronizer and Up-Down-Cross converter. The flagship image synchronizer and converter offers incredible versatility, with extensive connectivity integrated into an elegant 1U rack for all necessary 4K/UltraHD and 2K/HD/SD conversions. Offering a wide range of audio and video input/output options, the FS4 can do the work of four separate systems in 2K/HD/SD, or combine all its processors and channels together, with maximum flexibility for 4K and UltraHD productivity.
Single or 4-channel modes in a 1U rack
The FS4 offers two complete signal processing and conversion modes:
Single-channel mode provides a panoply of 4K/UltraHD processing and Up-Down-Cross conversion from 2K, HD to SD.
Four-channel mode offers 4 channels of simultaneous 2K/HD/SD conversion and image memory. All in an elegant 1U chassis for high-density connections.
Single-channel mode
Uncompromising reliability. Incredible conversion power.
4K/UltraHD performance, image processing and synchronization are about to become the next standard, and the FS4 takes you there with extensive video connectivity including Quad 1.5G, Dual 3G, Quad 3G over 3G-SDI and 12Gb/6Gb via optional SFP fiber, 12G-SDI BNC and 12G-SDI LC modules.
In single-channel mode, the FS4 will convert HD or SD signals to 4K/UltraHD and vice versa, with a huge array of audio channels via Fiber, 3G-SDI, AES and MADI through a 272 x 208 matrix for incredible audio performance.
Four-channel mode
Welcome to four-channel mode.
View Architecture
In four-channel mode, the FS4 offers multi-channel conversion with incredibly extensive simultaneous processing for 2K/HD and SD signals. This includes image region scaling (ROI), proc amp calorimetric corrections, motion-aware deinterlacing and much more.
Multi-channel density reduced to a 1U rack. Space, energy and power consumption preserved.
New thinking, new interface
New thinking brings a new interface layout, and the FS4's front panel has been redesigned to simplify and speed up access to its many features. The panel has been designed to provide direct control in both single-channel and 4-channel modes. In four-channel mode, the 4 VIDx buttons below the Channel Select are illuminated. In single-channel mode, only VID1 is lit, VID2 to 4 are off.
Up, Down, Cross-Conversion
Going 4K is never an instantaneous change. Traditional signals and archive content need to be integrated into the 4K environment, while 4K elements need to be downscaled for today's 2K/HD workflows. Using AJA's outstanding conversion algorithms, the FS4 enables conversion of SD, HD or 2K video to 12G, 6G, 3G-SDI in 4K or UltraHD and vice versa. Compatible formats include Quadrant and 2SI (2 Sample Interleave).
AJA's hardware conversion technology ensures the best image quality for your productions; Key conversions include :
- Up/Down/Cross 4K/UltraHD/2K/HD/SD conversions
- SD/SD aspect ratio conversion
- HD/HD (720p/1080i) cross-conversion
All performed using dedicated 10-bit electronics.
Incredible digital connectivity
Video and audio connectivity and bandwidth to meet the demands of your projects.
For inputs and outputs, the FS4 uses standard BNC connectivity and optional SFPs to integrate easily into a variety of workflows and installations ranging from SDI to 12G.
FS4 features BNC and fiber inputs/outputs that accept signals with 4K/UltraHD/2K/HD/SD resolutions in single-channel mode. In four-channel mode, 2K/HD/SD inputs can be routed to multiple destinations without the need for an external signal distributor. A reference input with probe re-output allows the FS4 to be synchronized to the control room reference signal for maximum stability.
12G/6G BNC and optional fiber SFP
Optional SFPs for the FS4 include BNC and fiber 12G/6G-HD SDI input/output formats, allowing SDI signals great flexibility and fiber to run over distances of up to 10 Km and be connected directly to the FS4 without the need for external fiber/SDI conversions.
Optional optical SFPs :
- HDBNC-2TX-12G: 12G/6G-SDI Dual Coax HD-BNC Transmitter
- HDBNC-2RX-12G: 12G/6G-SDI Dual Coax HD-BNC Receiver

Massive audio flexibility
The advent of 5.1 and 7.1 audio has increased the number of audio channels that need to be managed in production. The MADI standard provides a convenient means of transporting large numbers of channels over a single cable, simplifying the cabling demands of broadcast, OB van and production. The FS4 supports both fiber and MADI inputs/outputs. An internal 277 x 208 mono audio matrix enables 1-to-1 or 1-to-many routing, taking into account MADI, mixdowns and all audio from SDI, fiber and AES sources, for an incredible number of audio processing capabilities in a single device.
Closed Caption Conversion
The FS4 is closed captioning compatible, enabling full conversion between 2K/HD/SD and 4K/UltraHD formats, accepting CEA-608 and CEA-708 standards. The FS4 can preserve closed captioning even when converting between formats, avoiding the need to re-insert closed captions after conversion.
Active Format Description
Content information is automatically inserted to match the converted signal. This means there's no need to insert the format description (AFD) after conversion, and devices that decrypt AFDs will receive the precise description of the received signal.
Remote configuration and control
The FS4 can be remotely controlled over a network, is SNMP-compatible and incorporates a web server. Multiple units can be connected to an Ethernet network via their built-in 10/100/1000Mb network ports, enabling control and configuration of multiple FSs from any Internet browser of computers connected to the network. Configurations can be saved and sent to multiple units, ensuring consistency and rapid configuration for large installations.
For seamless integration with existing automation systems, the FS4 takes external GPIs into account to trigger a wide range of functions.
