The new GY-HM180 sets a new benchmark for professional compact cameras with enhanced recording features over its predecessor. With comprehensive professional controls and a built-in 12x zoom lens, it enables superb 4K Ultra HD video recording directly onto cost-effective SDHC / SDXC memory cards. And, should you need to go into production, you can output in 4K via its HDMI connector or in HD via the recently added 3G-SDI output.
Integrated 12x Ultra HD lens, 1 / 2.3-inch CMOS sensor
High-quality images start with a 12x F1.2-3.5 precision optical zoom lens (35mm equivalent: 29.5-354mm). JVC's 4K CMOS sensor with 12.4 million pixels offers high sensitivity and excellent performance in a wide range of lighting conditions. Details are crisp and sharp throughout the image plane. When shooting in HD mode, dynamic zoom combines optical zoom and pixel mapping to create a seamless, lossless 24x zoom. This gives the camera a long zoom range while retaining its small form factor. Shooters will also appreciate the practical ND filter wheel: positions 0, 1 / 4th and 1 / 16th.
4K Ultra HD recording at 150 Mbps and live output
Working with 4K has never been easier! Insert an SDHC or SDXC memory card (UHS-I Speed class3) and record hours of 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) material. Recordings are made in Quicktime (.MOV) file format and are compatible with many popular editing systems. Connect a 4K Ultra HD monitor with a single HDMI cable and view the 4K signal live from the camera. You can also play back recorded files directly from the camera. The GY-HM180 also converts UHD signals to standard HD output via the built-in HDMI connector or via the 3G-SDI connector.
Full HD 4: 2: 2 recording at 50 Mbps
The GY-HM180 records HD 4: 2: 2 signals up to 60pb at 50 Mbit / s, making it ideal for general HD production work. 50Mbps files are stored in Quicktime (.MOV) format for easy editing. Conventional AVCHD (4: 2: 0) recording is also possible, offering extensive editing compatibility in a range of standard HD and SD formats.
Two slots for SDHC / SDXC cards
Two SDHC / SDXC card slots make the GY-HM180 a truly versatile camcorder, offering benefits such as simultaneous recording and relay recording. In relay recording mode, you can shoot continuously and seamlessly across multiple cards. When one card is full, the camcorder switches seamlessly and automatically to the other. And because the cards are hot-swappable, there's no real limit to continuous shooting time in any mode, even with lower-capacity cards.
Web Friendly file formats (Proxy)
Lower-resolution H.264 files (480x270p and 960x540p) can be recorded simultaneously with Full HD files. These files are considerably smaller than HD files, making them ideal for immediate publication on the Web. A file recorded in 960 x 540 mode is about 1/10th the size of a Full HD file recorded at 35 Mbps, and therefore requires a fraction of the publishing time. Smaller files can be quickly imported onto an iPad for easy editing using iMovie or Pinnacle Studio. Transporting video to the web or back to the studio has never been so quick.
